I need to renew my Spanish passport. Will the Spanish Embassy ask me to surrender my US passport?

I was born in Spain. I have lived in the US for over 15 years. In 2001 I became a US citizenship. I have US and Spanish citizenship & passports. My Spanish passport is now expiring and I will have to contact the Spanish Embassy in San Francisco to renew it for the 1st time since becoming a US citizen. Does anyone know if they will ask me to surrender my US passport/citizenship?

I don’t think so. Leave your US passport at home though to be sure. 😉
