Hello All,

It seems that some of the employee’s of the Spanish Embassy here in Washington DC aren’t very helpful.  I know in the end I will need to work with them on the possiblity of a VISA, but either way I have a stupid question.  Can an American Citizen apply for a Spanish work VISA without a Sponsor?  Meaning, can I simply apply for a work VISA, go through the process, and then use that for when I arrive to look for jobs?  I speak Spanish so I am able to communicate well, but I just don’t have a job lined up.  I’m interested to hear your suggestions.

All the best,
Fidel

Fidel: short answer no.

here’s the long answer.

The only place I know of that does something similar is Canada’s points-based immigration system. There’s nothing similar in Spain.
