If you want your NIE you can get it yourself in 1 day, no problem at all and pretty easy, but ...
Where you have to go for your NIE, depends on where you live/have your property.  You have to go to the policestation in your region.  For ex. if you are from J?vea, you have to go to Denia; if from Moraira you have to go to Benidorm, ...
To be able to go to the Policestation in Alicante or Elche, you have to have an address there (or use an address there, it isn’t checked).  The police-station in Elche is very easy and fast.  Make sure to be there before 8:30 to get your number (they start giving them at 8:00).
Then have your tax payed at the bank and the form for that tax filled out.  Fill out the second form, have your passport and a copy of it, and passport photo with you and wait for your turn. 
If all is fine, you have your NIE and the NIE-document when leaving home ...

If you want help with all this, go to the policestation (Alicante en Elche) and you will find English people who do all this for you, this for 90 ?.

Do not pay anyone to do a simple job like getting an NIE,all the info you need can be found at any townhall.

pepsi good point on you post there , dont for get you have to be there yourself , with Spanish address , i have rang , but keep get there voice mails ....

so real think there to help you get it ,

15.70euros in Elx police station last time i went there . need to be there early and get you Number , there lot looking for NIE numbers now adays

try to get in touch again with then , but becareful with any state documents if you make any mistake it will cost you and lead to more paper work , and lot off vistes to get it put right

NIE can be turn down aswell ,
