hope someone can help me on this.
here is our situation. My husband and I and our 2 daughters moved from the USA about 6 month ago. We register with the cat salud where we live in order to get into the public system. we register and got our cards ( we have to pay 87 euro per month for the 4 of us because we were not covered in any europeen country prior that).
Now today we went to the cat salud to request a “europeen card” Because we are going skiing in the french pyrennee over the holiday. SHe told us to go to the Social security office.
Well we don’t have a social security number so are we going to be able to get a “europeen card?.

I dont see how you can have health cards without a Social security number(s)

These would be required for the EHIC card and are issued by the Spanish social security office which I think had better be your next port of call!

You’d probably do well to just pick up some temporary travel insurance for your trip. Save yourself a lot of hassle.

My post was not meant to imply that they were not entitled to health care, merely that I did’nt understand how they could have a health card without having already been issued a national health number.

But in fact it depends on what you mean ‘entitled’ whether you mean on humanitarian grounds or literally - if you mean literally then in fact not everyone is entitled to Spanish Health care access because at least one category who is not are the British early retirees who do not qualify for the system by working (they have retired) and who are not at full pension age.

Well that is why I’m a bit confused. to get our health card we had to show our passport , NIE , empadranamiento, convivienta. that was all.
the thing is that we are resident here ( me as a EU and my husband hold a residency card ) but we are not working here. Our business is in the US . SO I think that is why we don’t have a social security number. but I have to say that I’m a bit confused in all this 😊

I think the answer lies in that different regions have different local policies and procedures.
