US citizen. I intend to come to Spain to live 1 Oct 08 and leave Spain mid May 09, and leave the EU mid June 09 to go back to the US. Although I will be in Spain more than 183 days, I will leave well before the end of the calendar year 09. Will I be liable for Spanish income tax? I will not work, and all my income will be generated from US investments and pensions.

No, you’re not obligated for taxes in Spain since you’re not working and your investments are from abroad. I’d be more concerned with staying past the 90 days you’re allowed to stay however.

Might I ask which visa? My guess would be the non-lucrative visa… and if so, we would very much appreciate a first hand report from someone who has success getting this visa. It’s not clear to many of us what proofs are required and the quantities you must prove.

Thanks!
