this is my first post and I appologize if this may sound a bit redundant, but I still have some questions pertaining to the visitor vs. student visa.  I appreciate all of your posts, but I still am undecided to wether it is worth sending my passport away and getting all of the other forms necessary for a student visa.  What do you think? I want to study Spanish in Granada for 4 months, and would like to travel to some of the other Schengen nations during my stay.  Plus, I am considering applying for a job in Spain for the autumn.  Thus, is it worth overstaying for a month or two?  The student visa may take a month, and if I wanted to start classes in February, I may be pushing the button a bit.  Plus, why even bother? My thinking was to get a visitor visa, get to Spain, then at the end of my 3 months, take proof of my studying to immigration or wherever and get them to give me an extension until the end of my study date.  How does that sound?

Well, basically it sounds like you’re trying to make the rules fit your plans, which is the opposite of how it works. Either you fly under the radar or you play by the rules. Kinda sucks but welcome to reality. :D

If you’re not planning to leave and return to the Schengen area during your time in Europe it may be easier to avoid the visa issue.
