I’m an American with legal Spanish residency but without a work visa. Last week I was offered a contract with a Spanish company (FINALLY!!), the salary being around 20k euros a year (sad…sad…sad….but it’s a starting point). I’ve searched this site as well as a few others and haven’t found exact info on how much tax I’ll be paying, as an American expat working full-time in Spain, without any property in my name. I’ve read anywhere between 25% (for a special expat-only flat tax) to 35%, but I was hoping maybe other Americans reading this might be able to guide me to a site that’s accurate and current. If not, can anyone recommend a Spanish tax advisor/accountant in Madrid who might be able to help me figure this out? I’m reluctant to sign a contract not knowing how much I’ll bring home each month…

Often times work contracts are negotiated with only the take-home salary in mind. Theoretically that 20k would be all take-home then… ought to check on that though.

Thanks, I am meeting with HR tomorrow so I’ll find out for sure if it’s all take-home or if it’s the salary before taxes. Supposing it were pre-taxes, any idea how much I’d be taxed?

Did you read our the page on taxes in Spain? That should give you a pretty good idea if you do the math.
